Jackie Fish was the first sporting megastar of league - without a doubt. Just search out anything written on the earliest days of the code and his name and reputation will feature.

Don't take my word for it though, check out the section 'Research So Far' on the Staffordshire University Sports History website (http://www.staffs.ac.uk/schools/humanities_and_soc_sciences/pgstudents/about.htm).

He played for Warrington in the 1900's and went on to coach the team. He played in the first England internationals against the 'Other Nationalities' as the opposition was called - a bit like the RL equivalent of the Barbarians.

He played as a three-quarter and was the forerunner of the modern day winger. He was very fast, ran off both feet and was probably the best RL player of his day. In Warrington he ranks up there with the awsome Brian Bevan. Nuff said!

Jackie played for Warrington from 1898-11 scored 215 tries and kicked 262 goals scoring 1,169 points, in his professional career, a phenomenal record and one that has been rarely bettered in either code. He set the standard for all those wonderful Wingers that the sport has created.

If there was a squad from history Jackie would be in it - like Bevan he scored in virtually every game he ever played in. A truely great sporting celebrity.

This is why I believe Jackie Fish should be in the Hall of Fame.
